The Kabakov Ship of Tolerance Lands in Rome

They are children and teenagers the real stars of the traveling project conceived by two great American, born in Soviet Union, conceptual artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. The Ship of Tolerance leads to the world his message of peace, involving the children. The landing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
There, where there was once the ancient port of Ripetta, a short walk from the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus, arrives from May 25 to 30 June 2017, the Ship of Tolerance by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, installed in Piazza del Ferro Cavallo, the historical complex that houses the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Touring project with a strong symbolic value and concept, The Ship of Tolerance is promoted by Kabakov Foundation, reality with which the two great artists undertake to disseminate positive values, between utopian spirit and humanism: dialogue between cultures, the battle for civil rights, freedom, equality, peace among peoples.
Traveling in different cities of the world, starting in 2005, the ship – a real wooden sailing ship, assembled and reassembled by a specialized team – is now in the Capital thanks to a partnership between the Foundation, the Academy, the Ministry of Education, the Vicariate of Rome and the Lateran University.
THE SAILING SHIP OF CHILDREN. THE EDUCATIONAL MISSION OF THE WORK OF KABAKOV
Heart work – of which show you preview the images – is the participation of hundreds of children and young people of the Roman schools, hired to decorate the boat after a process of reflection in the classroom on the issues of tolerance and intercultural. And they are the real protagonists of the project: children and adolescents Egyptian, Cuban, American, Italian … A which Kabakov delivering paints and brushes to decorate the great ammainati white sheets as sails.
On the morning of May 25, in the presence of Emilia Kabakov, the President and the Director of the Academy of Fine Arts, Mario Alì and Tiziana D’Acchille, the Minister Valeria Fedeli, but most of those guys who collaborated with their designs, their looks, their reflections, the Ship of tolerancewill be officially inaugurated: a temporary installation in the heart of Rome, to emphasize the age of the walls and terror that tolerance remains a value to grow. And to translate with a single formula: respect differences and make human substance, political, cultural.
