Passing of Ilya Kabakov
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ilya Kabakov, great artist, philosopher, beloved husband, treasured father, and adored grandfather. The man who spent his life imagining utopia, departed this world on Saturday, May 27th, surrounded by his loved ones, just shy of his 90th year. The family will hold a private funeral service on Tuesday, May 27th at De Friest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southhold followed by burial at Cutchogue Cemetery on the North Fork of Long Island.
A public memorial service will follow in several weeks. In lieu of flowers we ask that charitable donations be made to the Mattituck/Laurel Public Library or the Ship of Tolerance/Ilya and Emilia Kabakov Foundation.
